I wouldn't even leave 1 star.. unemployment is HELL....they have so many rules and are not very forthcoming, which is very sneaky to me. If I go to the office they should have a paper laying out all the underlining rules, even the fine print rules. They do not disclose that you have to apply for jobs just through the MWE website ONLY or you will not get YOUR unemployment benefits. So no going drectly through indeed or the compnies website. Which is very time consuming and can be difficult for those that are not computer literate. They will tell you oh you need to upload this and then you are good only to then say oh you need this as well, you do that and they come back with oh well this is needed as well..like why not tell me all that was needed from jump instead of prolonging the process (I mean I know why). They then damn near threaten you every week saying this needs to be done or else you will dismissed from unemployment. Only to turn around and stop all communication through beacon... so you think you are good nope they just decided to stop sending the reminder msgs on what needs to be done through beacon in order to keep you benefits. They also do not reach out via anything to say hey this is not being done you benefits will be discontinued by this date...they just essentially kick you out and that is that. Smh this is a disgrace and the system is setup to make people frustrated and to either start the process only to give up or not start it at all or the extreme to start get into a flow and then be dismissed because because a simple msg (that they were sending before) is not sent to inform you that this needs to be completed..again it was being sent before.. but you get into a groove and the msg center says 0 and you are lulled into false since of security that everything is completed. So for those reading stay in their necks.. apply for jobs through MWE only and ask them about beacon and where you go to for recertification every week even when the msgs stop. I am just very disgusted by how this process is handled or actually not being handle. Its very messy and I dont see it changing. This is not about the individual that work there because I am sure they are just following the messy script that is provided by the higher ups.

I was shocked to have my 1099-G reflect my ENTIRE SS number, no masking and the form was damaged and open, so my personal information was available for all to see. Why???? How does this help with fraud prevention? Your website requires multiple layers of authorization but you send out confidential information in the mail? Very disappointed. You can and should do better.

The young lady helping out at 899 north capital on 11/21/25 was super unprofessional, she called herself the "claim adjuster" and was seated next to the usual greeter at that office. When I initially came in she told me the issues I came in for was incorrect, after I explained myself she realized she was wrong herself. She very much stereotyped me and thought I was some typical DC YN. I have a strong background in Customer Service, particularly working for DC Government for 3+ years, therefore I like to think I can recognize when I'm being played with and sized up. She needs to be educated to do her job at a diligent level despite what she may personally think about a persons appearance, skin color, etc. I came in simply for a payment re issue. Originally she acted like my payment was already issued. After I explained the system she works for and how I haven't received my last payment, she stated she would put in request for re payment and assured me it would be done that day. Just for context, in the past, workers was able to re issue payment in front of me. I took her word for it, end of day passed and no payment issued. Now I have to wait until Monday. This is unacceptable DC is hiring people who don't want to do their job.

I tried applying for unemployment during the shutdown, Nothing I mean NOTHING worked for me but one headache after another headache. The system is so confusing. I uploaded everything they asked for except for my teeth record. I couldn't get anything done. When I finally received an email I just wanted to respond Forget it! FORGET it! FORGET IT!. Now we're back to work and still nothing has been completed so please delete my information and FORGET IT!!!

Having been unemployed for 2 months because my Federal Agency was severely downsized -- is no fun. I have been looking for jobs with no success so far -- and am registered wih the Dept of Employment Services in Wash DC. This morning I made a special trip to the DOES Office downtown to discuss some matters that were quite confusing and worrisome to me -- Takidah Riggsbee, a Claim Examiner, took my concerns seriously, discussed them with me, and explained some things I was unaware of. That took a load off my back and I left in a much happier and enlightened mood. Thank you!!
