I had the misfortune of visiting the North Seattle WorkSource office after being unemployed for 4 months (have never filed for unemployment) hoping to receive guidance about career changes, apprenticeships, and employment resources. Instead, I was treated in a dismissive and hostile manner by an employee named LUCY. I came prepared with questions, notes and my resume genuinely wanting help navigating available resources, but was repeatedly told to “just use the computers.” My resume was refused without review, and I was told there was “no need” to look at it because “that’s what the internet is for.” When I asked for basic assistance on a public computer, the employee appeared irritated that she had to get up and help me. As someone who has legally worked for years and had never asked for private or government assistance before, this experience was deeply discouraging during an already difficult period of time. I understand WorkSource is not a job placement agency (as LUCY was sure to repeat so a good 6 or 7 times )but I expected professionalism, guidance, and empathy — not to feel like I was inconveniencing staff for asking simple questions. Chris at front desk was much more kind, understanding and able to explain the resources Worksource was able to provide. I hope management takes feedback like this seriously so others seeking help do not leave feeling dismissed and unsupported.

During a recent visit to utilize the computer lab for career-related tasks, I was met with hostility the moment I walked through the door. Instead of offering helpful assistance, an employee aggressively demanded to know what purpose I would be using the computer for—which is completely absurd to ask someone at a workforce center, where the obvious goal is searching for employment or job training. When I replied, she told me the computers closed at 4:00 PM. Rather than handling this politely, she loudly shouted to a coworker across the room to see if I could use a different computer lab. They proceeded to argue back and forth publicly, making it seem like providing basic assistance was an overwhelming burden. Unprofessional demeanor like this severely hinders job seekers, and I ultimately chose to leave rather than tolerate it. It is disheartening that so many employees at this Seattle WorkSource location display a total lack of desire to assist with employment or training. I strongly urge the city and state to implement strict, regular inspections. One can only wonder how many people have missed out on critical career opportunities solely due to the staff's detrimental behavior.

I really appreciated receiving excellent customer service from the Greeter at the door and from both Matt and Stephanie yesterday around noon. Thank you very kindly for your help prior to my intake appointment with DVR. Thank you for making my first contact with your WorkSource office such a positive one!

Every time I have been there the customer service Representatives have Very helpful & Knowledgeable. The best Unemploymet Office I have been to. Job well done! Thank you! CJ

Kevin was very helpful over the phone, listening to my situation and offering suggestions and cautions on subjects I didn't think to ask after. I'm glad I called.
