i can't give enough credit to great jobs kc! i had two different advocates that helped me get into the welding program. They sponsored everything that came with school along with help with gas for my car to get to class and work boots as well. I was able to start my welding class after their four mandatory classes. i recently started my apprenticeship with the skills and knowledge that's this program completely sponsored.

Read this and enter this program at your own risk!!! After facing unemployment and struggling to find a career I thought at one point I would get my CDL. Through that school I found out about Great Jobs KC. Looking at the program I thought it looked really great. The website is well done and answered a lot of my questions. Just looking at it gave me hope. I applied for the program and was told I would be put on a wait list. That's typical and it could take over a month. Over several months they kept giving me steps to complete and submit over and over. They asked for pictures of all my documents even my deploma. I thought I was getting somewhere until they hit me with another couple months of waiting. I was unsure what was going on. Then finally they reached out in November. It had been around 4 months so far of completing documents and waiting. During this November call finally I thought. They told me I needed to complete a series of couple hour long work shops. Also the soonest ones would be January and February of 2026. I attended and completed all of the workshops which included homework. I waited and asked for an answer and was once again told an advisor would reach out. A week later she did and we discussed what I was looking at which was the CDL program. Originally we signed up for that but after discussing further with the CDL school I found out I was ineligible. A couple days later on the phone I said I decided to move on from the CDL and find a different scholarship. My advisor was very adamant about me joining that program but I explained it wasn't going to work. I decided it would be better to explore other career paths they offer on my own. This is a big decision and I have gone back and forth looking at different program on there website. Only in the last couple weeks have I settled on what program I was going to go with and decided to reach out. I had not heard for her at all since I told her id reach out with my decision on training. That's fine except for what she tell me when I do reach out to have that discussion. I have lost my scholarship. She tells me policies have changed and there is a reapplication process to the program and I would again have to wait until I get a seat for a scholarship. I was shocked and confused. Why didn't she, as my advisor not reach out or let me know anything about my scholarship being in danger of being taken away? She said she doesn't make the policies which I completely understand.I feel like there has been a complete oversight. I still have no answers and I feel like this has been a waste of time

📝 Professional Program Feedback and Concern Summary Subject: Urgent Follow-up Regarding Program Completion, Advocacy Support, and Program Administration I am writing to provide professional feedback regarding my recent experience concluding the program. I have successfully completed all program requirements and passed both requisite exams. My immediate concern is the inability to connect with my assigned advocate, Tamika, despite my recent completion. I understand from Tamika that this is a recurring issue within the program administration. Upon calling the main Greater Jobs KC office for assistance and escalation, I was informed that personnel are currently working remotely and that all inquiries or reports outside of the advocacy role must be directed back to the assigned advocate. This centralized point of contact, without an accessible escalation path, has created a significant administrative hurdle during a critical transition period. Furthermore, I have heard anecdotal reports from other students regarding discouraging advice from certain advocates, specifically concerning realistic salary expectations and advocating for higher wages post-graduation. I am pleased that one student chose to self-advocate and successfully secured a higher wage, independent of the advice received. My overall sentiment toward the program has shifted significantly. While I initially held the program in high regard—so much so that I referred three family members who are currently enrolled in various programs—I am now deeply concerned and embarrassed by my recommendation. I also feel compelled to address the handling of sensitive issues. As a pregnant woman, I have had experiences with racism where the response from the program was inadequate, essentially suggesting that this is an unavoidable aspect of the "real world." This passive response fails to offer meaningful support or intervention and contributes to a broader cycle of systemic disappointment. In summary, the issues I have experienced, which date back to my enrollment in 2024 and extended into 2025, point to serious internal concerns: * Lack of Organizational Clarity and Professionalism * Poor Communication and Inadequate Staffing * Absence of a Reliable Escalation and Support Structure * Low Staff Morale I urge the administration to review the program's operational efficiency and support structure. Putting significant funding into a program requires a commitment to maintaining a high standard of excellence from beginning to end. I wish all future participants success, and I encourage them to be diligent, self-advocate, and maintain their own professional standards, as program support can be inconsistent.

When I first enrolled with Great Jobs KC, I truly believed it was a blessing, an opportunity for adults like myself to gain new skills and pursue better career paths. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from what was promised. The organization presents itself as a strong advocate for adult education across the KC metro area, but in reality, the level of care and support for scholars is severely lacking. I originally signed up for the IT program but was later informed I could not continue after not passing the entrance exam, only to learn that the IT program was no longer even available. I was told to choose a new career path. The remaining options presented to me were extremely limited due to my work schedule, and the advocate assigned to assist me was dismissive and difficult to work with, so much so that I almost decided not to move forward with any program at all. After finally selecting a new career path, I waited more than a month before any workshops began. Once I started the program, I quickly realized it did not meet expectations or the professional standards that were advertised. Scholars are required to purchase additional materials that should have been included in tuition and the overall quality of training, resources, and structure has been disappointing. So many students have expressed the same concerns that Great Jobs KC eventually visited the school, yet the meeting that followed was unproductive. The representative who led the discussion minimized our concerns and essentially stated that if we weren’t self-paying, we didn’t have a reason to complain. That response was both unprofessional and disrespectful to those of us genuinely trying to learn and grow. Great Jobs KC needs to reassess its mission and the programs it funds. The lack of oversight, quality control, and student support undermines everything the organization claims to stand for. I’m sharing this feedback because I believe the mission is worth protecting but the execution must change if Great Jobs KC truly intends to help adults build better futures.
