I attended a Job Fair in May and was fortunate to meet Bill @ Vegas Career Connection. I have a job (beginning 26 Nov) thanks to the efforts of Bill and his partner Sharon. They have an approach that differs from others, in this field. First, they give you a Meyers-Briggs Type Inventory Test, to determine where you should work (based on your personality). This way you're not wasting your time searching for jobs you wouldn't be comfortable doing. Secondly, they interview you (extensively) to determine your strengths. Third, they help you construct an "ageless" resume. Sharon worked in HR for a number of years, so she knows how to write a resume Las Vegas businesses will want to read. Finally, every time you have an interview, they'll sit down with you and practice interview questions, so you go into the interview confident and rehearsed. Their patient folks. Being former military (Marines), they helped me to not be so rigid during job interviews. They highlighted my military experience and civilian work history into a credible/readable resume, that got responses. We had many, many practice interview sessions prior to every job interview, and that is where the payoff happens. Their approach is not to find you a job specifically, but to enhance your confidence by: narrowing your job search to things your personality says would be valuable to you; build upon your strengths (the education and work expertise you have accumulated over the years); tell you how to improve your likability for employers.
