I worked with Contemporaries as a temp several years ago. Overall, the opportunities they presented were fine, and I believed there was a mutual understanding that I was looking for part-time work with reasonable travel requirements. I’m writing this review now because I was recently reminded of an interaction with a manager at Contemporaries that I found exceptionally unprofessional. I was offered a temporary retail position outside the Boston area that would have required a significant and inconvenient commute. When the opportunity was presented, I said I needed a little time to consider whether the logistics and travel costs made sense for me. Later that same day, I followed up to decline, explaining that the commute was not workable but that I remained available for roles that were more accessible. Shortly after, I received a call from the manager, who spoke to me in a condescending and reprimanding tone for declining the assignment, suggesting that this was not how the relationship worked. As a temp, not an employee, and having been clear about my availability and constraints from the outset, I did not agree with that characterization. At the time, I was younger and chose not to push back, but the interaction stuck with me. I did not appreciate being spoken to that way over a routine and reasonable decision. It felt like misplaced frustration, possibly due to difficulty filling that particular role, but it should not have been directed at me. I’m sharing this in the hope that the company reflects on how it communicates with temps, and so that others know it is reasonable to set boundaries around logistics and working conditions. I’m glad to see that others have had positive experiences, but this interaction still stands out to me as something that should not have happened.

Contemporaries is responsive, professional, and have great knowledge of the best places to work in Boston. I was placed at an assignment within a very short window of time and my recruitment specialist, Janet, really took the time to understand my expertise and offer positions where my strengths would be most useful. After a 4-month assignment with Contemporaries, I am now a full-time employee at my assigned location and couldn’t be happier with the support I received.

I have had a really wonderful experience with Contemporaries Staffing. I had a great experience working with Contemporaries Inc.
