I learned a whole lot whether it came as life skills or as information about the medical industry as a whole. If you are thinking about joining be active in the community, go to the gym at minimum 3 times a week, make some friends. If you decide to live on campus try to be an SRA; it will keep you motivated and instill better habits for your self once you graduate. 😁

I am a current student at Job corps. I have spent a while reading among different reviews from not only San Jose Job Corps but also other Job Corps programs. I have come on to give an updated review for anyone who reads these. The females had just switched from the 300 building into the 100 and 200 building while the men switched to buildings 400,500,600, and 700. I want to start with the staff. I am in my third month here and I have realized one of the RAs here a female RA had shown resentment toward female students but not the men. The only one she actually liked was terminated a couple weeks ago. She will flirt with the boys especially when she realizes they are NOT single. Many girls have complained about her but nothing has changed. Definitely shows favoritism as well. Not ALL the RAs are bad like Cherish and Luis. They are amazing and respectful RAs. ( I dont know the other ones). The teachers. Its hard to describe the teachers because they can definitely go both ways. Some my teachers are chill but some arent. The students. The rules here are applied and implied but not forced. When we are told not to gossip or anything the students continue to gossip and the staff do nothing. Especially one of the RAs here. She used to be a student here so she likes to act and try being in all the drama. (newsflash its gossiping.) Overall the place itself feels like a prison. But the place is better then being homeless. They will definitely help your future but its a bumpy pathway if you choose to live on campus. Its drama after drama here. Email me if you have any questions. Like most things that are 'free' in cost, it ends up costing you in different ways in the end. I graduated from the program in 2020 officially, but I requested to be released from the program in 2019. I completed the Medical Admin trade. The work is self paced and overall is a better environment for students who have intellectual disabilities like myself. There's modicum of issues I had while a student fresh out of high school, so here's the bullet points and I'll provide details when applicable. *Told the recruiter on more than one occasion that I don't have a car and would be unable to meet her at her office for the required paperwork drop off. Advised I could email it. She declined, swearing that wasn't an option. Made an appointment with her, took off work and upon heading to the bus, she told me she needed to meet me in the next 10 minutes. When I advised I couldn't and that I felt like maybe I could explore other programs *magically* she said I could take a pic and email it *Had my extension cord straight up stolen by the security guard checking my bag during enrollment. Never returned/compensated for *Was written up by being near someone who was smoking, not actively smoking myself. *Was told by Miss Athena that I had a reward waiting in the main office due to a high English test score. Then when I went to said office was called a liar to my face by the staff member. *Won a spin the wheel raffle, never received prize *Was once chatting with a friend in the lounge area, unaware that the staff were prepping for a weekly meeting with a pizza dinner for the students. I was new. Then was rudely confronted by a staff and outright insulted and accused of trying to get pizza early. I was sent to my room like a child *When I joined, staff pushed all students to change their Medi-Cal status under themselves instead of their parents and make it FFS. Some students followed suit and thank God I didn't because said students either lost their Medi-Cal or had to pay a lot more money for health visits/issues. *Spent a full 2 weeks on public transportation trying to get to various internship interviews. I finally got one, and the literal day I was set to start they enacted COVID protections and refused to let me leave, and worse yet, refused to reach out to the employer and explain my situation. So, I lost the internship. *When I moved to Nevada I decided that I would not continue the program or try to go back to California as I had gotten a decent WFH job. Was literally given more classes on my schedule and was told by my math teacher that I still had to complete 8 hours a day of math work. While working. *Was pressured by the staff in charge of retention to host a class for students who had questions about Medi-Cal, since I was working in Medi-Cal benefits directly. Advised I'd love to and asked for the rate of pay. Staff then advised I'd be donating my time. I politely declined and explained that I work, and any amount of work provided for Job Corps would have to be compensated. Staff then tried to guilt me into it by stating over and over "It's really important to give back to the program that helped you so much. It'd make a lot of people very happy; you'd be making a difference". Said no flat out. *Was constantly harassed by the aforementioned staff for verification of my work. And I'll be honest, my boss didn't see a reason to verify employment for a company that wasn't providing any resources or help for me. So she just never answered. After awhile I just got sick of her and blocked her number. Last message she sent before realizing she was blocked and wasn't going to be able to contact me was "You can ignore me but i'm paid to keep checking on you until I get a response :)" *Was supposed to be awarded a clothing allowance, they purposefully closed my case before doing so, so they wouldn't have to. Overall, I think if you're low income and have no other means to get any kind of leg up in the employment world, or you're homeless, it's an okay option.

This is a horrible place with undertrained staff and corrupted management. They payed well for the staffs but have a high turnover rate. Everyone was quiting left and right as they do not care about you and will abuse their power. The students are just people who are trying their best to succeed in life but some older conservative staff decided to stop anything related to self-expression. They will just let anyone in without having a background check cause why was a residential advisor having sex with a student. A lot of students are pretty chill/nonchalant but you will get those who threaten you with everything they have. The "school" doesn't even care about a 24 year old dating a 16 year old or anything related. Domestic violence cases get drown out with the amounts of mismanagement. George Varghese failed to do his job and only care about the statistics. He play favorites nonstop and will enforced unreasonable expectations because it's all "how can we run this as cheaply as possible" mindset. I hope they actually get better with their choices of staffing and students.

Do not go, the staff and the people that work there are super rude. They also don't do ANYTHING about bad behavior and just let the bad students do whatever they want. They also don't do anything about harassment & just let horrible people reek havok without any repercussions. It's LITERALLY JAIL/PRISON. I AM TELLING YOU RN DO NOT GO especially if you are a woman. I'm commenting this RN for your SAFETY, DO NOT GO!!!
